In a few days, Google will shut down some of its most popular services, such as Google Maps, YouTube, and Gmail, on some types of older phones.
Search giant Google has confirmed that some Android devices will lose access to Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail starting September 27.
Unless they update their phone or buy a new phone quickly, so they can access various Google services.
Google announced the deadline in a short post on its website. The tech giant said it plans to block users from logging in with their Google accounts on Android 2.3 devices.
An older version of Google's operating system was released in December 2010. Google said it is withdrawing support for the platform "as part of its efforts to protect users."
The search giant regularly drops support for older versions of Android software when it releases new ones. This is because older versions of operating systems are much more prone to bugs and hackers.
The latest version of Android is Android 11, so it's 2.3 miles from the software that runs on most Android smartphones today.
In February 2017, Google suspended Google Pay contactless payments from operating on Android 2.3 phones.
At the end of this month, anyone who continues to use the device will find that they cannot log into their Google account. They will receive username and password errors, even if they entered the correct credentials.
If you try to add a Google Calendar or Gmail account to the device settings menu, the same error will occur.
Other popular Google apps will also stop working, such as YouTube, Google Play Store, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Calendar, and more.
To continue using this application, the user needs to update their phone to Android 3.0.
Users can do this by going to the device settings and tapping on the system update.
However, as not all devices running Android 2.3 can upgrade to the next version, some users may be locked out forever. Smartphones that continue to use Android 2.3 include Sony Xperia Advance, Lenovo K800, Sony Xperia Go, Vodafone Smart II, Samsung Galaxy S2, Sony Xperia P, LG Spectrum, Sony Xperia S, LG Prada 3.0, HTC Velocity, HTC Evo 4G, Motorola API and Motorola XT532.
